About WAPEDO

WHO WE ARE

Wakwetu People’s Development Organization (WAPEDO) came into existence as a result of the motivation and personal initiative of its founder Rev. Anderson Madimilo to enhance the socio-economic status of the people and protection of the environment. Rev Anderson Madimilo is an Anglican pastor who was raised in rural family, he is not a stranger to the hardships faced by poor rural families. He grew up witnessing the forests disappearing as a result of human activities, people becoming more stressed and losing their culture. Having an experience of those challenges, the founder set out to do his best to make a positive difference in the lives of people and their environment.

Working with a team of committed people, WAPEDO
aim has been to improve living conditions of people while ensuring conservation of their native environment through people’s participation. The key areas identified for intervations include Environmental sustainability, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Livelihood, Agroforestry, WASH, Health & Empowerment.

Our efforts have developed lasting association with government, Non-Government and Corporate Organizations as also with the communities & groups with whom we have worked.

We have came a long way following a small beginning in August 2016 and have implemented a variety of projects related to environmental conservation, natural
resource management, Agriculture, beekeeping, Community capacity building and Education & Awareness.

Through our project named “Msani rejuvenation” in partnership with International Tree Foundation (ITF) , we were able to be recognized by the government through its Agency named Tanzania Forest services (TFS) as the leading organization in tree planting in the Mpwapwa district and awarded a certificate of appreciation in the year 2021.
