Our History

Wakwetu People’s Development Organization
(WAPEDO) came into existence as a result of the motivation and personal initiative of its founder Rev. Anderson Madimilo to enhance the socio-economic status of the people and protection of the environment.
Rev Anderson Madimilo is an Anglican pastor who was
raised in rural family, he is not a stranger to the hardships faced by poor rural families. He grew up witnessing the forests disappearing as a result of human
activities, people becoming more stressed and losing their culture. Having an experience of those challenges, the founder set out to do his best to make a positive
difference in the lives of people and their environment.

Find Out Why People Love Wakwetu People's Development Organization (WAPEDO)

“Mary states that, WAPEDO made her to know the importance of trees. When people were
destructing the forest for their own use, Mary supported them. Now Mary has understood that
trees are the source of life, she does not destruct again and she is a good teacher to others. We
were trained well! I am now aware on Forest Management. Thank you WAPEDO, what you have
done is a big job that is helping the entire community, people have really benefitted from what
you have shown us.”

“Damian from Kisokwe village depends on agriculture for his survival. Earlier he was not aware on the
importance of planting trees alongside the crops but since he received training from WAPEDO, he started
practicing agroforestry on his land. “Since i received training from WAPEDO I started practicing
agroforestry on my land, in the last rain season I planted 30 trees and am looking forward to increase
number of trees in the coming rainy season”
